X Factor sensation Lucy Spraggan’s mum was delighted to learn she was gay, the singer revealed last night.
But Lucy, who came out aged 14, says her grandad only realised she was attracted to girls when he read it on online.
“My mum loves gay people, she thinks she’s part of the cool club now,” said Lucy. “But grandad only found out I was gay on Google.”
And single girl Lucy hopes her new fame might make it easier to find a girlfriend.
She said: “X Factor must do wonders for your love life. Girls do love girls with guitars.”
The 20-year-old accident-prone hopeful from Sheffield wowed judges on Saturday with Last Night, a song she wrote about her drunken antics.
Lucy explained: “I woke up once at Christmas and I’d cracked my head open on a metal bar after messing about with my mates. I went to hospital and had it glued and then we went out again. I may have been concussed.”
Her “beer fear” song is now doing well on iTunes after the judges predicted it could be a No1.
