A woman who found out that her late husband was also her biological father has made her story public.

Valerie Spruill, 60, revealed to Akron Beacon Journal that she never knew who her father was as she was raised by her grandparents.

Her husband Percy Spruill died in 1998 aged 60, though it was only some time after that, in 2004, that she was told the truth about her husband by her uncle.

DNA test results confirmed the fact that Percy was her father.

Valerie stated her belief that Percy was aware they were related, but added that she tries not to hold it against him.

"I want this to be more of an inspirational story," she said. "If I've come through this, anyone can come through anything through the help of the Lord.

"It needs to be told, because children need to know where they come from. And I know it hurts, because I have been devastated by this."

Valerie has three children and eight grandchildren.
