A gang of German thieves attempting to blow up a cash machine accidentally destroyed the whole bank.

Parts of the Sparkasse Bank in Nottuln, North-Rhine Westphalia were flung 80 metres across the street, damaging two neighbouring buildings.

According to The Local, police believe the thieves miscalculated the amount of dynamite required to damage the ATM.

Despite the carnage, the robbers still managed to escape the scene with the cash machine, after police confirmed that it was missing from the debris.

No information was available on how much money was stolen, but the explosion has resulted in hundreds of thousands of euros in damage.

It has left flats above the bank uninhabitable, and there is now a possibility the whole building will have to be demolished.
