I agree to a degree but not wholly. The moment Simon Cowell chose Jedward over whoever that girl was (she was pretty good), was the moment that X Factor decided to become more of an entertainment show than a music contest. Since then it has focused more so on mainstream pop than actual real talent, that is the reason why people are bored of it. Since then we have not only seen more talentless pop acts (and a gruesome amount of boybands recently) but we have also been introduced to a novelty act every year due to Jedward's success.
Reality shows can stay on for a long while and still remain fresh. Big Brother, for me at least, started getting it wrong with their housemates, which was the reason for their decline. But look at 'I'm a celeb', that is still as fresh as ever and that has been going on for the best part of a decade.
