Corporations shouldn't rule the world, Arista. That worker probably has expenses based on that salary (mortgage/car/children etc), so asking someone to lose that much money is absurd.
Companies are sitting on record profits across the globe at the moment, whilst the living standards of it's workers continues to decline. They had already agreed to previous pay cuts and a reduction in benefits.
Somewhere along the line, you have to fight for your own life. The company hasn't been destroyed. I guarantee it will carry on. If unions accept this without a fight, then what's to stop the next massive company saying "Oh, poor us, we're struggling, can you take £11k off your salary, lose your pension, holiday, and other benefits.
I bet you any amount, that they didn't start the cost savings with the CEO's at the top of the pyramid, yet it is their decisions that have lead them there.
