Rant: toy packaging

Ok, as a caring parent, I buy my children toys from time to time. However, I have a huge issue with the packaging.

Now, I know they are packaged in such a way as to look more appealing whilst on the shelf. But, FFS... It's a 10-man job getting some of this stuff out of the boxes. This afternoon, my stress levels went from zero to hero whilst unpackaging a spider-man city playset. Never have I seen so many cable ties in one place!!!

Why can't they just have pretty illustrations on the boxes, and just chuck all the pieces in? What's wrong with that idea? That's what I will be doing with it now that it's unpackaged. Instead of that, they cable tie and shrink wrap everything to a massive chunk of cardboard resulting in an hours work unpacking it. This would be slightly less of a problem if there wasn't an excited 5 year old waiting to play with the damn thing, and objecting to the "bad words" mummy keeps saying everytime she pings herself with a bit of wire-tie.

Anyhoo.. it's now opened, assembled, and being played with.. although usually there is more time spent on the preparation than the actual playing.

*sighs*
