I think the diff between the two countries is highlighted by the attitudes of the populations of these countries. In Britain this crime is universally condemned by everybody from the man on the street to the queen herself. All depts within the British establishment would be actively seeking to find the perpetrators of this disgusting act and they would all be given very long life terms.
However in India we read the crime has not been properly investigated and that the local police force are dragging their feet , almost unconcerned. We also read that there is in place a strange caste system that condones certain actions of higher caste people carried out on lower caste people. We find in general attitudes to women by large numbers of Indian males is highly misogynistic.
These are the diffs between the two nations and clearly India needs to step forward a few hundred years and wake up to the fact that these views are not acceptable in a modern society.
