I think they raised a huge amount of money from the phone votes which went to charity - the £50k prize money would have gone to whoever won that year as it was mentioned on launch night. Maybe it was to attract wider range of celebrities (which is funny since apart from the oldies, it was a really poor cast)? I'm assuming it was just as it was the transitional series between the Comic Relief series and the normal ones so they probably gave much lower fees too.

Chantelle got £25k for winning CBB4, I think? Though I don't know if Barrymore would have gotten it if he won.
