As far as I know, it is not.

It never was in Australia either but because of cross pop cultural bleeding it has gained some traction. Kinda like muppet and I do like "pants" as a derogatory term.

We will NEVER accept "crisps" though - they are chips. We know in context whether somebody wants "potato chips" in a packet from a super market or hot "chips" from the fish and chips shops. We are not dumb.

"Crisps" justs sounds retarded and is hard to say.
