Picture it from their perspective:

You are given the choice to win a letter for someone you dislike by separating from the person you love for two hours and having to instead sit with people you actively dislike. You refuse this, and are later called "disgraceful" for stopping a mother receiving her letter, even though you didn't have a choice in who lost that letter.

Then, when people are booing you and calling you horrible people, you try and lighten the mood by clapping for the people who got their letter, to which Rylan immediately calls out as being horrible, despite Heidi seemingly only doing it to be positive.

Of course Spencer, who wants the others to be uncomfortable, is going to clap knowing it annoys them. He actively dislikes Rylan. Had Speidi chosen to stop Claire getting her letter, it would be different, but they didn't. Where is the outrage at nobody reading out their letter, Tricia giving herself priority over 4 other housemates, or using the fact they have children to overrule any other person's letter?
