Default Train driver tells noisy passenger on her phone to be quiet

A train driver has been praised after he made an announcement asking a passenger to stop shouting into her phone.

The driver used the public address system on the packed commuter train travelling between London and Milton keynes to specifically address the female passenger.

He said: ‘This is a special message to the lady travelling in first class in the middle of the train.

‘Please refrain from shouting on the phone as you are annoying other passengers.’

The embarrassed commuter is reported to have promptly ended her phone call to the delight of fellow passengers.

Peter Foot, chairman of the National Campaign for Courtesy, said it was a ‘marvellous’ announcement and pointed out a passenger may have complained first.

Mr Foot added: ‘It’s big bugbear, people having loud mobile phone conversations on trains.

‘I have never heard of an announcement like this being made on a train before. I think it’s an excellent idea.’

A spokesman for train operator London Midland said such announcements were not part of any company policy.
