Christopher had to wait until now before he was released from Sony, who didn’t take up their option to sign him.
“ I wanted full control over what I was doing and full creativity and I wanted a label that will look after me. I didn’t want to go somewhere with big artists where I would be put on the sideline,” Chris said.
He told the Liverpool Echo: “If I signed with another record company, it would have been a lot longer process and my fans are waiting for my album now.
“There’s two people writing it at the moment and one producer. People are expecting an album full of covers but that’s not what I’m going to do. There may be one or two covers but it’ll be mostly new stuff.”
Chris, who will release his debut single in August, added: “It will be similar to Will Young’s sound when he first came out, songs like Leave Right Now, that sort of style and different to what people will expect.
“It will start to feel real when I get in the studio in North Wales in five weeks. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Chris joins last year’s stars James Arthur, Ella Henderson, Union J and Jahmene Douglas in securing a record deal after the show.
good luck to him
