And the only reason Shilpa has cooked all the food is cos she won't let anyone else... the other housemates have said this already.

And I hope everyone calling Jade a chav hasn't been involved in calling anyone racist against Shilpa.. cos then well, it'd just be like the pot calling the kettle black, seeing as chav is a prejudice term.
Excellent point about the use of the term "chav" It's another term that shows prejudice and discrimination except that chav is treating someone differently because of their social class rather than the colour of their skin. Both are just as reprehensible though.

Nonsense. Althugh Chav is normally seen as a council estate hoodie it mainly refers to someone's personality and behaviour. You can come from a 'disadvantaged social class' and not be a chav.

I hate racism, but I'll quite happily call Jade a chav. because she is one.
Admin edited that out...
Chav is a subcultural stereotype.

It is not at all mainly used to refer to someone's personality and behaviour exclusively, it refers to a whole subculture in which the word includes the way the person dresses, their "status", where they come from, the way in which they lead their lives, and also includes their personality and behaviour.

The word in itself is demeaning , and the use of the word is prejudice when used in any circumstance.

If it was just about their behaviour and personality you could call Paris Hilton a chav, but you wouldn't would you.
Definitely. Paris Hilton is a chav.

The point is, chav is used to describe personality traits such as rudeness, ignorance and disrespect just as much as it describes the image of cheap jewellry, leisure wear, Lambert and Butler and baseball caps.

((YES BUT A CHAV IS NOT ONE WITHOUT THE OTHER, THE WORD WAS CREATED WITH THE IMAGE ALONG WITH PERSONALITY TRAITS AS ONE, YOU COULD PICK OUT ONE CHAV AND GENERALISE A WHOLE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO LOOK THE SAME AS THIS PERSON AS THE WORD IS USED TO PREJUDICE A CERTAIN GROUP OF A CERTAIN "CLASS"))

Being a chav is something that you choose to be, and people from a council estate can choose not to be a chav. The difference with racism, is that it is the irrational discrimination of someone simply for their nationality or the colour of their skin.

((I THINK YOU'LL FIND JADE NO LONGER LIVES ON A COUNCIL ESTATE))

So yes, both are discriminatory terms, but it could be argued that 'chav' has connotations of encouragemnet (i.e. better yourself and we wont call you a chav) but racism is out and out intolerance. Theres a huge difference.
(((No no no, chav is a word of encouragement??.. there are many people out there who say " Im not racist towards black people i just don't like n****** " this is used in reference to the stereotype of black people from a poor community who dress a certain way, listen to a certain type of music, and act a certain way. You would not say that the word n****r is therefore a word of encouragement.)))

AND DISCRIMINATION ON ANY LEVEL IS UN ACCEPTABLE, YOU CLEARLY JUST STATED THAT CHAV IS A DISCRIMINATORY TERM YOURSELF, THEREFORE IT IS WRONG TO USE IT AGAINST ANYONE.
Nonsense. The world is not black and white sweetheart. Learn to understand the shades of grey.
