I sometimes check them and leave it ages before replying though, then I end up forgetting so I feel like a rude bastard. I often just leave social group invitations as well because I hate joining groups but don't have the heart to reject the invitation

PMs come up different to notifications.
Or at least they do for me...I get a popup box thing saying I have a PM, whereas visitor messages just go into a little [1] on notifications
