Whether it's racism or not is not the issue. It is most definitely a case of acute and extreme ignorance towards somebody who's only offence is nothing more than being different from the people attacking her. It's ignorance which leads to prejudice which leads to racism.
|
But I don't think it is fair to say an ignorant person is a racist.
If someone is un/misinformed and unaware in a subject their judgements will be wrong but it doesn't make them racist.

Ignorance leads to racism. It's a fact. If somebody has been misimformed then it is up to them to listen and learn not to judge and belittle. I again go back to the person who pointed out that Shilpas culture is as much a mystery to Jermaine and Dirk as it is to Team ignorant. However, they are reacting in a different and more acceptable way.

Yes ignorance can lead to racism. But if you have no knowledge about another culture, and all you've seen is possibly from films or random bits you hear now and then your judgement is going to be misinformed. If we are unaware of something we automatically make assumptions on what we do know. She doesn't know what she is saying is wrong but she doesn't know what is right either. Yes, it is up to us to listen and learn and that is the best thing to do, but just because she hasn't it does not make her racist.
One of the comments Danielle has been referred to as being racist is when she has asked after a discussion about Shilpa fingering their food if it was in India or China that they ate with their hands... Now most people know that this is a stupid thing to say , but due to her ignorance she doesn't know that what she is saying isn't true and it is probably something she may have heard somewhere or seen somewhere, she also said she thought Winston Churchill was the first black president of America, again another stupid thing to say but not at all racist.

Have you all heard that they are burning effigys in India. This is getting big. It also proves how big a star Shilpa is.
My point is that what we're seeing here may or may not be racism. It is, however, extreme ignorance which, to me, is just as unnacceptable. Danielle Lloyd needs to be taught to listen and learn before opening up her potty mouth.
Ignorance of this sort should not have a platform no matter how entertaining it may seem at time, because it inevitable leads to pretty dodgy views on rather sensitive issue.
