I think he sees himself as Mr Golden delicious and its not the fact that he has lost a follower in her, its all about him not wanting Daley to get her. He is rapidly becoming a real t.w.a.t. he is even lecturing Hazel about her moral ethics as if it is his job as the morality inspector.
