I think if Teddy had stayed with Danielle he would have been brave not cowardly.
There's gonna be a massive media backlash over her behavoiur on the show. Teddy would have had to very publicly stand by her side. At some point I would have also expected somebody to ask for his stance on racism and bullying as many of his teamates are of colour. He was gonna be in the spotlight due to her terrible behaviour and would have had to answer many awkward questions.
I think he has been cowardly but I think he had no choice.
