Ship\'s rigged claims contestant [Contains Spoliers]
Quote:
A CONTESTANT on reality show Shipwrecked claims public schoolgirl Lucy Buchanan was PUSHED by producers into making racist comments.
[spoil]Lorenzo Preecha, 21, demanded to be flown home from the Cook Islands in the South Pacific after only three weeks because he feels the Channel 4 show is rigged.[/spoil]
He said: “I feel sorry for Lucy — she’s just a pawn in their game.”
Lorenzo also revealed there was an added incentive to be controversial — a £15,000 prize for the most entertaining contestant, on top of the £70,000 the winning team will share.
He added: “You have to do up to ten interviews a day and if producers aren’t happy with your answers they keep asking.
“You just say what they want to hear so you can end the interview.
“They’d have said to Lucy that she mustn’t know many black people, and prompted her in that way to come out with those comments.
Lucy’s a sweet, naive girl and she’s been used by the producers.”
Watchdogs Ofcom received 460 complaints after 18-year-old Lucy told fellow islanders black people were “really bad” and she backed slavery.
Lorenzo, a barber from London, said: “The whole show is manipulated from start to finish. They call it reality TV, but there’s nothing real about it.”
