Dan has been manipulated. If this edited account of the night's events were provided by Hazel, others eg Gina and anyone with any instinct re: half-truths, would question Hazel's role in the whole process. However, if Hazel selectively shares information with Dan, who then presents this information honestly believing it to be the whole story, a more favourable version of events is now made fact by a reliable, trusted source. Noone will now feel comfortable questioning Hazel, noone will ever know about her warning or about the fact she debagged Daley or assaulted him. Only Daley's wrongdoing is acknowledged. When Dan watches it back on leaving, he'll feel a bit used.
