It's not an anomaly, it was proven that Thalidomide drugs do that to children. I wouldn't ban its usage for treating leprosy and there have been links between Thalidomide drugs and cancer treatment; but surely these women can't have been aware of what Thalidomide was going to do to their unborn children if they were taking it while pregnant? It's cruel to do that to a baby, that's their entire life changed for the worse before they're even born.
