This, and Dan's initial annoyance at being nominated by him are what did for Callum.
The makers of the programme package what we see. The BOTS team also play a part. They consistently introduce Callum with words like 'creepy' or 'cringy'. Look at what they showed in the dancing analysis. Did they analyse how he danced with Charlie when they were all relaxed and partying? No. They showed the bit where he and Sam were larking about and dancing in a ridiculous manner. They were so clearly having a laugh with each other and not taking it seriously. yet that was what was taken to represent his character.
Over and over again they have talked about him in a negative way (at times I have wondered if I was watching the same show as they were).
This packaging has an effect on how we view the housemates. They do it every year: they pick out a narrative and go with it. They then mold what they show to reflect that narrative.
Within the house, Callum drew the ire of a powerful opinion former when he nominated Dan on the basis that they just hadn't connected as much as with other housemates (seems a valid reason to me). From that point on Dan was gunning for him.
The whole thing with Charlie meanwhile has been made to look like a creepshow. In fact, during the first week they were getting on like the proverbial house on fire. Only after the VT's were shown did that falter. From that point on, Jackie was gunning for him and did her level best to put Charlie off him completely. Since she was the one he had been closest to, any attempt by him to retain that closeness has been read as creepy. Meanwhile, Dexter, who had no interest in Charlie whatsoever until the Hazel-Daley thing, managed to charm his way into Jackie's good graces, despite having said far worse things in his VT than Callum did.
Dan and Jackie between them have turned the entire house against Callum. You can tell, by the way they repeat phrases first used by Dan.
From the VT onwards he was on the back foot. Little wonder he retreated behind a 'character' wall. I think I probably would too, if everybody around me was making it clear that I was not welcome.
The only two people who haven't bought into the anti-Callum narrative are Sam and Gina.
