I think Charlie is a people pleaser, that's her problem. She is emotionally immature and needs approval from other people.
I think it's greatly to do with the way she has been brought up. Jackie was also controlling of Charlie - remember when she walked away from Charlie when Charlie was shut in the prison.
Jackie recognized Callum's controlling nature but doesn't see it in herself.

That's what makes Callum's treatment of her so much more disturbing. He knows she's not emotionally equipped to shut him down, just like he knows everyone else in the house is, which is why he would never dream of pulling this crap with them. Even when he rehashes his arguments to Sam, he completely rewrites what he's said to make himself sound less manipulative. (much like the way he told Sam he got in Wolfy's face when we all saw him calmly point out that she was doing it wrong)
