It's not a bad idea to avoid any microsoft product for the a year or so. I know it is meant to be more stable than other new releases of windows but why switch from stable Windows XP to something that is a bit of unknown until you have to.
I'm still happly running a Windows 98 machine for playing old games. It's fast and generally very stable. If I was to upgrade that machine, even to XP, I would simply have to bin it and start again.
