Question The pitfalls of supporting the 'Underdog'

I've noticed this series a correlation with BB13: the strongest fan favourites on the forum were those who, initially, were pretty hated inside and outside the house. I can't really compare with BB12 because the voting in that series was rather suspect...

This year, Dexter and Gina have made it to the final stretch and seen off some of the more obnoxious, rude and unpleasant housemates (Wolfy, Dan, Callum). Last year, Deana's struggle against Conor made her the fan favourite after a while.

But once the real 'villain' of the show is evicted (or walks off with £50k in one of the most unjust pissings away of money of all time) both housemates - Dexter and Deana, and to a lesser extent Gina (on account of her obsessive hatred of Hazel), have really begun to slip down the popularity rankings.

So my theory is this, and it's an unpleasant one. Do you think keeping in the housemates who these fan-favourites clash with, and have come-uppance over, is detrimental to their popularity? It's almost as if once all of the bad guys and the bitches are gone, these underdogs' flaws are brought to light because all they have to go against now are the nicest (or most boring, if you're one of those obsessed with the idea of entertainment) housemates. Deana got too cocky with her 'soldiers' nonsense and got into a few pointless and damaging spats with Sara and Luke S. The same's happening with Dexter.
