Because I remember Dexter getting pissed off with Charlie.
He believed the others when they said she had been talking about him and did not have Charlies back.
He let the whole thing play out and watched Charlie distraught trying to explain to the house that people had taken what she said and made it sound bitchy.

Yes, that is a bit weird. I just wonder if it is hard to shake off what F & Fs have seen and relayed and not take some of it in because don't forget in Charlie's letter she was told to up her game, and that might have sunk in more now if some remember that, but it still didn't stop Dexter consoling Charlie, whatever he believes at the moment and telling her to just be herself and get on with the game
And that what is matters as she needs someone by her side at the moment.
