I have actually been the victim of some pretty nasty workplace bullying/harassment. In a previous job I fell foul of someone I had thought was my friend. He made my job pretty unbearable and in the end I was left with very little choice but to find another job and leave. The shame of it was I loved that job. He has since been sacked for a similar treatment of another staff member who was brave enough to stand up to him.

Long term it has made me a stronger person. I will not accept anyone speaking to me in an inappropriate way or even attempt to bully me. I would also actively challenge anyone else who was trying to be a bully towards anyone else.

Having been a bully myself as a teenager it was weird to be on the recieving end, and to be honest I wasnt sure it was really happening at the first. I thought I was over reacting to things but with time I realised it was really happening. I did speak to colleagues about it and even went as far as writing to the Director and asking for some support but his answer was to give my letter to the person in question to deal with as he was a senior manager which just made things a whole lot worse for me.

Bullying can be done in so many ways in the workplace. Some are moer sublte than others, even unreaslitc timescales can be a subtle form of bullying. Some Managers like to keep work until the last minute then dump it into another persons lap insisting it is done straight away. Then there is the more obvious ones of shouting at an belittling that goes on. A friend of mine is in a difficult position at the minute. She works for another friend of ours who thinks it is ok to flip out at her at any given moment. I have actually spoken to my friend about this and said that what she is doing is bullying but she cant see it.
