I've no idea, and I don't even know what John Newman looks like, but there has been a rise in weird looking people becoming singers... gone are the days where all popstars were impossibly beautiful or striking (in a good way) - now we have Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, Skrillex etc filling the charts. I suppose that's a good thing, but I think perhaps because I grew up watching popstars be all tanned, preened and beautiful, I find it really weird seeing a fat bird get #1 smashes (Adele), a scrawny, pale ginger guy become a radio favourite (Ed Sheeran), a Sloth from the Goonies lookalike win the X Factor (James Arthur), weird hairstyles become popular (Emeli Sande, La Roux, Ellie Goulding, Skrillex)...
