BBAUS is pretty similer to the UK one, i found it a bit difficult to get into but after 4/5 days i got just as into it as i was into BBUK.
The only main diffrences between the series are nominations, they use a points system (e.g the 3 or more housemates withe most number of nomination points face eviction) and they have a show called 'Friday night live' were the winner becomes HoH has has the power to deduct 3 points of any of the 3 nominees.
Also, there daily shows air at 7:30pm whoch means no swearing and no sexual talk. They did have a show called 'Big Brother: Adult's Only' were they showed all the late night stuff but it was axed mid-series last year - Hopefully it will be back this year.
Oh and they have fines. The prize money starts of at $1million but every time a housemate breaks a rule 5K is deducted from the prize money. For example last year the prize money started off at 1million but due to fines over the 100 days the winner Jamie went away with $426K.
Oh and they use a diffrent voting, the public can vote to Save and to evict. Then when the lines close the save votes are deducted from the evict votes and the housemate with the most number of merged votes is evicted.
E.g.:
Mary has 500 save votes and 510 evict votes. This means she has 10 merged votes.
John has 600 save votes and 700 evict votes. This means John has 100 merged votes and as he has more merged votes then Mary he is evicted.
