A disaster in Glasgow means not much more to me than one in Ben's vaunted "Kenya".

If a helicopter crashed on a site 2 miles from someone I knew from the internet, not so devastated - shoite happens.

To get it fed from BBC24/Sky News was lazy TV journalism.
..yeah, and the devastation would be greater because they're both friends, I understand that and it wouldn't have quite the same impact on you personally if I had that same thing happen to friends of mine, right..how could it...but it doesn't mean to say that you wouldn't feel empathy for me or my friends families/friends etc...it's just a natural and human thing that things have a greater impact, the closer they are to our own lives/the closer we personally relate to them...like sitting in a pub, having a drink with friends/enjoying a conversation etc and our loved ones expecting us home and suddenly in a few seconds that all changes..or being one of the helicopter police who, yeah even though it has some danger...our families are expecting us home that night...nothing more than just a 'routine'...and right near where one of our own forum members lives, who witnessed some of the aftermath..and other forum members who it was close to...is it not natural that it stirs our concerns/interest in a more personal way..?..that doesn't take away our empathy for other things when greater losses of lives/devastation occurs...
