I don't see why it matters, all that matters is that Tom Daley himself is happy.
Looking at the Sun, it is clear it would soon have been a 'hounded' story likely in the future had he said nothing himself, so good on him for doing so and getting his side said first.

He says, he feels safe,that's a telling statement in my opinion and a good feeling to have with anyone.
I myself doubt he needed a sugar Daddy in reality, I would expect he already has good earnings himself and that in fact money is likely irrelevant.

For me it is unbelievable the media still make such an issue of things like this anyway.
