The shallow stuff such as age, looks and youthful sexuality should be irrelevant. Unfortunately in the shallow world or bubble-gum pop where teens are the biggest consumer group - it isn't. Which is why hardly anyone past of age of 25-30 takes pop too seriously. Pop is for those going with the crowd, thankfully most usually develop their own tastes when they grow up a bit. There is a hugh market out there for those who want to raise their goals and have a long-term future in other areas of the music industry - Sam has a very good shot and x-factor has given her the platform she needed. I have a feeling she may well outlast x-factor, which, lets face it, has seen its day with all the manipulation of the contestants and voters.

Even worse is how it is blatantly used to act as a vehicle for fading pop stars such as Nicole, trying to establish herself again as a solo artist. She needs the show every bit as much as the contestants do. I almost feel sorry for her, especially after last night's performance - it was so desperate.

I like Sam, but she just doesn't grab me the way Luke does. I guess it's down to personal preference. We all like different things.
