always had rights.
Women couldn't vote till the 1920's, you had to be over 30 though. It wasn't until 1928 that all women were given the right to vote.
It took a few more years for them to be allowed jobs such as accounting and the legal profession. Women couldn't inherit property until the the mid 1920's.
It wasn't until the mid 1950's that women civil servants and teachers would receive pay equal to men and it took nearly 20 more years until the introduction of the equal pay act.
In the 1970's working women could only get a mortgage if they had the signature of a male guarantor.
The most shocking thing I came across was that it wasn't until the 1990's that rape in marriage was made a criminal offense.
