but england is only 50,000 square miles, scotland 30,000

the population in england is over 1000 people per square mile and the 6th most populated per square mile in the world

scotland is 175 people per square mile
wales 370 per square mile

then look at the south east of england and london
over 5000 people per square mile

is this really sustainable with our ancient infrastructure and higher tides?

This is yet another example of why spreading the economic wealth and jobs and infrastructure around this small island is essential. the difference in the south east and wales is staggering...I went to live in north wales and its like landing on the the bright side of the moon. but the gap between the 2 is absurd

the country needs to set in place a plan to country the population and economic disaprity as a matter of grave urgency. the south east is so build up and over populated now, not just with people with the sheer amount fo land thats built on tarmaced, heck most people dont even have gardens to absorb the rainfall....it probably doesnt hep that all the waterworks infrastructure is french owned....hopefully this latest disaster will be heeded, but I doubt it
To take your argument and turn it around perhaps the floods are a good thing as they will force the Govt to now rebuild the railway lines and roads and think seriously about building future houses on known flood plains.

Sometimes it takes a war or a major act of nature to finally force Govt's to cut through all the red tape and other political crap and actually just find the money and get the job done.

Perhaps we could divert some of the Billions of pounds we currently give to poor needy nations like India,Brazil and Argentina.....??????
