I don't really get how people find it so difficult to comprehend, my mum kept referring to Conchita as a "freak" and fair enough if you don't like the performance, but I thought it was a statement more than anything and I thought it was quite an effective gimmick at that. It was very poignant and powerful that a drag queen with a beard can win the approval of Europe and really shows that, although there is a long way to go in terms of equal rights and wide acceptance, as a whole Europe has come along so far in recent years.
