A complete No brainer, why would any sane person vote to continue to be subjugated or ruled by a foreign country especially as they have been ruled by this country for over 300 years.

Low national self-esteem / lack of self belief (the entire no campaign hinges on telling Scottish people that they're too incompetent to be independent and doomed if they try), institutionalization, and that old human folly - fear of the unknown.
It all boils down to:
"Maybe we can do it, maybe things will be much better, BUT WHAT IF WE CAN'T? WHAT IF THEY'RE WORSE?? Things are more or less sort of OK at the moment so best just keep things as they are
