Because your body knows that eventually, it will have all the carbs you've swallowed and it doesn't wait until it that happens and borrows real carbohydrates from its carbohydrate depots. When the sweet-tasted food is real, the carbohydrates eventually do get into the blood. And if they're not?
Being fooled, your body reacts rather vindictively: it forces you to * want* more sweets plus next time, you consume more calories with any food, including the innocent protein food -- to convert it into glucose in process of gluconeogenesis. So, you'd be better off without artificial sweeteners, Aspartame or not.
