'BB ratings are fine!!
The officials are pretty much level with the first officials of last series, with a difference of only around 80,000. Remember, we're still in week 2 and this is possibly the most competitive season of TV with the world cup.. yesterday the show attracted 1.3 million, if you include +1, +24, HD, Live Streaming on the app and third party sites, Demand 5, Lunchtime repeats and 5* repeats, it's pretty much certain that figure will grow several hundred thousand...
It's very pessimistic to assume BB will finish because of a week of low ratings, what do you expect, I'm certain the producers are aware of this, otherwise they'd wait a week or two to air it until smaller matches in the World Cup begin. Channel 5 put BB in direct competition otherwise the channel would quite literally be obliterated, and even so.. the episodes are attracting near enough the same numbers as they would without the World Cup.. it's still making a good profit for the channel and it's still well above the average percentage share, in most cases it's almost DOUBLE!
Face it, BB doesn't aquire the ratings it used to of 3 or 4 million, granted it struggles to hit 1.5 nowadays, but what everybody seems to forget is the target audience. It's targeted at YOUTH. And in advertisement, YOUTH targets are the most important as they are the most who are more likely to spend disposable income on their products. Therefore it works out much better than many other channels, such as ITV and Channel 4, whose target market at the 9-10pm slot is typically somewhat older than 15-30s age range.
It's the channel's flagship programming and each year the ratings improve. Civillian BB continues to grow at a rate of near 100,000 new viewers each series, meanwhile CBB is attracting near 200,000 (minus the summer series, which due to low ratings often dip more than the winter editions, but are still vastly improving in ratings)
BB is a staple of Channel 5, British TV and British culture and there will always be a targetable market to make money. If ratings are poor, the producers will find ways around it, such as in this series, simple changes such as removing the news section and sweaty Box on BOTS and making the house design more simple, using commerical items, not one off, designer products.
BB is hear to stay, ratings yes are low at the moment but it still regularly hits Channel 5's most watched shows of the week, typically 6 out of 7 days.. furthermore, it's almost always rated at 3rd out of the main 5 channels, something which Channel 5 almost certainly never did before it acquired the show.
BB14 OVERNIGHTS / FIRST WEEK
2.1m, 2.1m, 1.3m, 1.5m, 1.5m, 1.4m, 1.3m, 1.3m, 1.8m (1.6 AVERAGE)
BB15 OVERNIGHTS / FIRST WEEK
2.1m, 1.6m, 1.0m, 1.5m, 1.2m, 1.3m, 1.2m, 1.0m, 1.0m (1.3 AVERAGE)
(Just to point out.. the Second week of BB14 had a reduction in ratings, meanwhile the current series, BB15 has had an increase in ratings in its second week)
BB14 OVERNIGHTS / SECOND WEEK AVERAGE - 1.3M
BB15 OVERNIGHTS / SECOND WEEK AVERAGE - 1.2M
CURRENT OFFICIAL - BB15 is only 80,000 viewers down on BB14 in terms of viewers (in it's first week), thus suggesting that although less are watching, far more are catching up in other areas besides the main broadcast show, this is incredibly good news as it further suggests this year's audience is slightly larger, despite the decrease in viewers as more are watching in other areas.
(Lets also bare in mind that BB12 and BB13 often struggled to even hit 1.2m-1.4m)
(Lets also bare in mind, ratings change so randomly, it's hardly a problem, remember the Daley Hazel episode, overnight data showed 1.7 million watched overnight, the highest of any highlights show on C5, all down to good advertisement and word of mouth)
Sorry this is so long to read, but I got awfully fed up of the bad news surrounding ratings. It's true, but not to the extent of cancellation, now if anybody can be bothered to read this MASSIVE post, I acknowledge you dearly!
Rant officially over!'
