Generally if I refer to a person as a thing it's because I'm so far done with them and refuse to associate with them, not anything to do with their appearance. If he'd qualified it with something like 'grotesque thing' or 'skanky thing' or whatever you might have a point but let's not overreact to someone having legitimate ammunition against the house pitbull.
