If being called a slug and a maggot and sitting within earshot while people laughed at her didn't bother her then she's a very strange person indeed. She may not have been in 'emotional torture' as you dramatically put it, but she must have felt hurt and ostracized.
But it is good of them to have stopped it
and she's happy about that.
