It's because there have been so many over the top bonkers housemates and that is what is expected from every housemate.
It is the viewers who have been programmed and the viewers who are malfunctioning when they watch a normal person like Kimberly.
The majority of people I have encountered during my life through college and work etc have been normal people like Kimberly. I have only met a couple bonkers cartoon characters.
