WE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT YET!!!
That's what I keep trying to stress about people commenting on "She's not been ill long enough to go to hospital bla bla bla bla". Or that it must be so serious because she's gone to hospital.
We know exactly nothing. Hold your horses.
And as for Sam, most people didn't know at all because she barely featured in the highlights and got called dull and then she came out and said she'd been in bed ill for most of the series.
