Also when we are voting for local it is a councillor who is a member of a specific party, when we vote in our general elections it is a MP (member of parliment) that we are voting for.
Voting in the local elections is not always a great refelction of which party will take the general elections as local councillors can build up great reputations even if they are part of a party that is not that popular which will make people vote for the person rather than the party.
I personally vote on a party basis based on party politics and promises, many others think oooh he looks lovely lets vote for him
