Well it's a bit of a coincidence that the two least watched series' of Big Brother just so happen to clash with two of the world's biggest televised sporting events. I know there's been the World Cup/Olympics all the way through Big Brother's run on television but it's no secret that Big Brother is a lot less popular than it once was, with people who were once big fans of the show now looking down on it, so the smaller the fanbase is, the more its going to be affected by these events.

For example, the soaps are still a major part of British television and are still popular, and even though they are dented by sporting events they still manage 5 million+ viewers, even though their averages are 7/8 million a night. Big Brother averages 1.5-2 million so when it's dented and is going down to 700/800 k it seems a lot worse.
