See how people take things and run with them....James was NOT told to take Gary under his wing. As I recall it, he was asked to help Gary integrate with the group initially (and to tell the others as well) because of his hearing problems.
He was not asked to care for him, to help him with showers, or continue talking to him or be friendly with him after that initial settling - in period.
James isn't in there to be Gary's carer. He doesn't even have to go near him, like most of the others. He may be helping him in his own incompetent way, but at least he spends time with him and says Gary fascinates him. Give the man a break. Even twats have hearts.
