I actually think Gary warrants some credit for putting up with James for all these weeks.
He is a constant vexation, picking up on any comment to 'get at' someone.

He has done it with Audley too,I was glad the other night when Audley said he had more issues with James than with Gary.

James is not honest,he does say what he is thinking and seems to love to put someone down that he perceives as a threat or weaker than he is but he falsely states that he really likes Gary,has been a friend to him and helped him in the house.

He didn't do that of by his own will, he was asked after his treatemtn of Gary to sort of assist in making sure Gary wasn't ostracised,he was asked to do that early in the series by BB.
That is the only likely reason he has.
Also how Gary resisted to respond with something like 'maybe it would have been better had you gone' is something to his credit as well.

Yet still all through he has slated Gary to others,especially with the really awful Dee,which for me takes away much of the credibility of any genuine assistance he may have given to Gary.

It is a pity James has never seemingly appeared to take one major thing on board at times and that is, to keep your mouth shut at times and not use it to deliberately, belittle or put down others.
