Quincy Jones is a tw@t which may of also played a part. Still, I don't really see any great excuse. He really should of done it for charity. However, he did a tour which gave a lot to charity which I guess sort of made up for it a bit. It effected his career big time. It certainly played some of a role as to why he was never as big as MJ. Many other reasons behind that, however.

There was the old supposed rivalry between him and MJ cited as another possible reason. I don't really believe that whole rivalry thing though. Both of their heroes were James Brown... that's where the similarity ends, in my opinion. Both are so different.

There are stories of them shooting hoops at Prince's recording studio, why would they do that if they were rivals? He also sung Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough on a tour shortly after Michael died.

And yeah, it's Kim Carnes.

..didn't he still do a song for the album though..?..you never know with Prince I guess but I did read up a little and it's uncertain whether it was just that he didn't like the song or whether he was uncertain of government corruption etc and whether the charity monies would actually get to where they were needed and meant to be..?..I know that there was a lot of controversy over the whole Band Aid thing and that so much aid didn't actually get through..?..anyway, he's Prince/the Artist and quite unique and unpredictable......he is actually quite brilliant I think ..I also agree that although quite different styles and artists, I always felt that MJ and Prince had mutual respect for each other but maybe it's more 'dramz' to think that they didn't and didn't like each other....similar things have often been said about many artists and there has been no truth in them at all...
