Thumbs up

A Poem For Waterhog

Why do they put walls around cemeteries? It’s perplexing beyond all doubt, because the ones outside don’t want to be in, And the one’s inside can’t get out.

But it’s different in the land of the living Whether you’re a ‘Have’ or ‘Have Not’, Because some who won’t work for a living, Prefer to just steal what you’ve got.

No matter if castle, apartment or terrace, People should feel safe in their homes, but how? When even the garden’s not safe, as thieves nick, plants, turf and gnomes?

A friend renovated a broken down semi on a rough, tough, huge Council Estate, But his neighbours quickly took offence then later came back for his gate.

So ‘Private Gated Estates’ I understand, and I don’t think the reason is snobbery, More trying to ensure in a lawless society That they don’t become victims of robbery.

And what about perverts and deviants? Who creep the dark nights at will. Aren’t walls and gates much preferable to a ‘Jimmy Savile’ peering over your sill?

So, I’m afraid, that though fences and gates May be an increasing ‘sign of the times’ They’re a necessary ‘effect’, not a ‘cause’, because the ‘cause’ is runaway crime
