It has been proven beyond any doubt that this world existed hundreds of millions of years before the evolution of human kind. If you wish to scare a child/person who has little knowledge , tell them that they will,come to great harm, torment and pain unless they do as some deity says they must do. This creates 'control ' of a person ,or millions of people, which is what the orchestration of any given belief desire. Some for good intentions, most for bad.

For your contention to be correct, one would have to assume that a child will never grow up. Children believe in invisible friends, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus, but as they mature they come to know better.

Most religious parents (of any Faith) do not brainwash their children into believing in religion nor terrify them with any threats of 'Fire & Brimstone' damnation for not believing. Only extremists in any religion do that, and there are plenty of sick extremist, abusive parents who have no religion.

With respect, I feel you are over simplifying matters.
