Its possible to express yourself without offending people and its equally possible to deliberately offend through the expression of your thoughts and feelings, so yes, freedom of expression is very important but should be partnered with intelligent use of language coupled with empathy and so on because if its always predictably offensive, it becomes unbalanced.

Hopkins was being provocative, she was deliberately trying to provoke a response from Perez in the same way that she tries to provoke a response from her readers when she writes her blogs. She's very predictable and clearly not as bright as she would like us all to believe.
