Michelle comes from a time in New York when the gay kids were thrown out onto the streets and had to live on the piers, she's said this was one of the only communities that really accepted her. Back then the struggle was to just be accepted and fit in, and in that respect I can understand why she has a problem with Perez.

Her friends struggled to fit in, and Perez gives two ****s about being accepted or conforming, even going out of his way to be an irritant. I can kinda see how she feels that she's still fighting for the gay movement while Perez is messing it up and how that's made her be on gay activist overhaul, but she needs to get with the times. The gay fight isn't just about fitting in anymore, it's about a community of individuals. She's the one hurting it by giving Perez a set of rules that he has to live by to be 'acceptable.'
